ABOUT MUSTAFA KEMAL UNIVERSITY (MKU)
Mustafa Kemal University (MKU) was formally established in Hatay located in mid-south Turkey in 1992. Hatay is one of the 81 provinces in Turkey and Antakya is the central city of the Hatay province. MKU has become an arrogant education and science center through continuous development. The main campus of the University is named Tayfur Sokmen Campus and located in Serinyol area, about 15 km to the Antakya city center.
MKU has 10 faculties, 5 four-year colleges, 15 two-year vocational schools, 3 post-graduate institutes, 9 research centers, and 1 music conservatory.

MKU has about 23000 full-time undergraduate students, 400 post-graduate students (MS and PhD), 650 teaching staff, 550 administrative staff.
Campuses
MKU has three main campuses:
1) Tayfur Sokmen Campus (Main Campus): It is located in Serinyol area about 15 km to the Antakya city center. It hosts six faculty buildings (Agriculture, Science&Letters, Economics&Business Administration, Veterinary, Architecture, Medicine), three post-graduate institutes, the Health Research Hospital, central library and sports facilities.


2) Center Campus: It is located in the Antakya city center. It hosts two faculty buildings (Education and Fine Arts), one four-year college (Sports & Physical Education), Rectorate and administrative offices, guest house and one gymnasium.
3) Iskenderun Campus: It is located in Iskenderun area about 60 km to the Antakya city center. It hosts two faculty buildings (Engineering and Fisheries&Aquaculture), one four-year college (Tourism & Hotel Management).
IT Facilities
All units of MKU are connected to the internet. Almost all of students in our institutions are given practical computer knowledge and it is possible to connect to the internet from the computer laboratories on our campuses. The Computer Science Research and Application Center (CSRAC) provides the university with internet access and coordinates web services. More than 800 computers connected to the internet are available in the classes that students can use.
Students are able to have wireless internet connection with their personal laptop computers on the entire campus.
Student Life
The students have the opportunity to pursue their sporting or recreational interests indoors and outdoors. For indoor sports, there are 2 sports halls, which can be used for a variety of sports such as basketball, volleyball and handball, including a gymnasium with a fully equipped exercise/training room. In most faculties and schools, table tennis rooms are also available. For outdoor sports, the University has extensive playing fields on every campus, i.e. one astroturf, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts. 20 student clubs and societies are open to interested students at various faculties and schools to cover social and cultural interactions.
Since 1995, the university organizes Annual Spring Festival for the students in May. The festival includes cultural, artistic, sportive, and entertainment activities.
Libraries
The libraries have subscription to over 130 periodicals and provide resources for undergraduate and graduate course requirements. The library has internet access to online databases such as EBSCO, PROQUEST, OCLC, INTERSCINCE, and SCIENCE DIRECT and these include over 6000 periodicals.

Accommodation: 150€ / per month

Incidental and Personal Expenses: 200-300€ /per month
Accommodation
At present, the state dormitories in Antakya house about 850 female students and 650 male students. Also, private dormitories and hostels with a capacity of more than 750 have been in service. Some of these accommodation facilities are located near campus and some are in the city center. Also, it is possible to rent an apartment flat. The rent cost for a three-room apartment flat is about 250-300 Euro per month excluding water and electricity costs.
Transportation
Transportation to and from the campuses are provided by mini buses with a capacity of about 15 passengers. The student price and full price of bus ticket is about 0.40 Euro and 0.50 Euro, respectively.
Language of Instructions
Although the main language of instruction is Turkish, graduation from universities and master programs includes a compulsory foreign language requirement for all departments. Some faculties and schools such as Medicine, Science&Letters, Economics&Business Administration, Tourism & Hotel Management also require one-year compulsory foreign language (English) preparatory class.
Visa / Residence Permit
International students have to apply for a student visa. More information can be obtained from Turkish Embassy or Consulate in the related country.
All international students in Turkey must register with a residence permit from the Bureau of Foreign Residence Registration at the provincial Directorate of Security with all documents. Residence permits are given for the period of the time they will be studying at Mustafa Kemal University as indicated on the student visa.

Medical Facilities
Three Medical Centers located in different places of the university and Hatay offer medical services to the students and academic and administrative staff. The health centers comprise various polyclinics, fully equipped clinical laboratories, radiological examination rooms, and an emergency room. The University's health service is a service providing general medical care. General Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports is the responsible office for the medical services.
International students are advised to come with a health insurance. Also, other kinds of insurance are optional and may be taken care of by the student's own national insurance company or by a Turkish insurance company during their stay in Turkey.
